Haligonians beware!

Fri Sep 4, 2009, 10:59 AM
I'm not sure how many of you out there will care, but in case there are one or two of my watchers in the Halifax, Nova Scotia area who are interested, I'll be in town on the weekend of Sept. 10-13 and will be popping in at Strange Adventures, the best comic shop in the world, on Saturday, the 12th at 2pm-ish, and will probably nip off for a drink or two at Maxwell's Plum, the best bar located exactly next to a Strange Adventures in the world. Anyone who wants to come out and talk comics, music or how little the Disney/Marvel thing will actually impact anyone's lives is welcome.

  • Listening to: Sun Kil Moon
  • Reading: Likewise by Ariel Schrag
  • Watching: Dollhouse, Season One
  • Drinking: un cafe, sil vous plais

I just want to say I ADORE your comic "Pictures of you" and you're definately getting a watch from me. I hope to see more aawesome stuff in the future and plan to start reading "Our Time in Eden" quite soon you awesome Canadian :D
:icontolneir:
Oh wow I didn't know you had a DeviantArt!
:iconbrutalgeek:
I've always wondered how do you color comics, what Technique do you use??
I've tried a couple of times myself but it just look like crap.
:icongibsontwist:
The way I colour, I'm told, is pretty roundabout. Generally, I'll pick a colour based on nothing besides "Yeh, I guess that looks alright", and then I'll pick a highlight colour that is just noticably darker than the original. I use my various Select tools to define the areas where I want my colours to be, then I cover them with the Pen tool on the widest setting, going over it many times to make sure I don't miss any tiny spots. The I use the Select tools to subtract from that area, leaving the area I'm going to highlight selected. Then I go over that with the pen. I usually start with the hair, then the skin tones, then clothes, furniture and backgrounds. The last thing I colour is the eyes, which is something I picked up from Eastern tradition regarding how statues are painted. I made sure to bastardize it, though.

I hope that answers your question. Thanks for asking!

Ah~ no idea why I haven't watched you yet! Most definitely doing that now!
I've been catching up on Pictures of You today. As in most likely 300+ pages I've missed. Eventually I'll get to Our Time in Eden. ;)
But your style combined with your writing...it's just brilliant. I can't really describe it well into words. I'm thoroughly enjoying it - truely amazing how your work has evolved from 'My Tribe'. Inspires me to continue to work hard on my own stuff.
